This article contains spoilers for the Stardew Valley 1.6 update

Trinkets are a new equippable clothing item in the Stardew Valley 1.6 update, giving the player new unique combat abilities and even a new cosmetic option! These trinkets, equipped through a new inventory slot, can be obtained after Combat Mastery is claimed. This guide is intended to help players obtain these trinkets and learn how to use them in-game.

General Information

As said previously, trinkets can only be obtained after reaching level 10 in all skills and unlocking the mysterious secret room Grandpa has prepared for you in Cindersap Forest. In this room, you are able to gain Mastery points towards new items and powers related to your skills. Upon gaining enough points and choosing Combat Mastery, the player can gain access to trinkets.

These trinkets can be found in many places, mostly as drops from monsters and crates and barrels in the Mines, Skull Cavern, and Quarry Mine. Trinkets also have a 0.63% chance to drop in a Skull Cavern treasure chest with Farming Mastery, or a 0.64% chance without it. There is one trinket, the Magic Hair Gel, that cannot be obtained through any of these sources and must be purchased.

Trinkets unfortunately do not stack and cannot be combined at the Forge like rings and weapons. However, the player can obtain the same trinket multiple times and they can be sold at the Adventurer’s Guild for 1000g each.

Basilisk Paw

The Basilisk Paw allows the player to be immune to debuffs such as Burnt, Darkness, and Slimed. The Paw can be found through monster drops, crates and barrels, and Skull Cavern treasure rooms. This trinket cannot be re-forged on the Anvil to randomize its stats.

Fairy Box

The Fairy Box summons an adorable fairy of a random level to heal you during combat. This can be useful for players who need an extra boost in dangerous mining excursions such as the Skull Cavern. Like the Basilisk Paw, the Fairy Box can be obtained from monsters, crates and barrels, and Skull Cavern treasure room floors. This trinket can be re-forged on the Anvil to randomize the level of the fairy, with a max stat of level 5.

Frog Egg

The Frog Egg summons a very hungry frog that will sometimes completely devour enemies. The frog comes in a variety of colors, which can be randomized through re-forging at the Anvil. The Frog Egg can be found in the same places as other trinkets, and can be sold for 1000g. The downside to this trinket is that the frog also devours any possible item drops from enemies it consumes, making it a bit harder to gather resources.

Golden Spur

The Golden Spur boosts your speed for a random amount of time, with a max stat of 10 seconds. This occurs when you make a critical strike on a monster. The Golden Spur can be found in any of the normal trinket areas, such as monster drops, crates, and Skull Cavern treasure floors. At the Anvil, the duration of the speed boost can be randomized.

Ice Rod

The Ice Rod is my personal favorite, as it makes combat with a lot of monsters much easier. The Ice Rod shoots an orb of ice and freezes any enemies in its path. The frequency and duration of this orb is randomized, but happens at least every 3 seconds and can freeze enemies for up to 4 seconds. This makes enemies that move around a lot, such as slimes, magma sprites, bats, and serpents much easier to deal with, as you can attack while they are frozen in place. Craft an Anvil in order to re-forge and randomize the frequency and duration of the ice orb.

Magic Hair Gel

The Magic Hair Gel is the only non-combat related trinket in the game. It can be purchased from Alex’s shop for 100 Calico Eggs once you unlock the bus and therefore the Desert Festival during spring. The Magic Hair Gel is certainly magical, making your characters’ hair shimmer rainbow colors.

Magic Quiver

The Magic Quiver is the most customizable combat trinket, with the ability to randomize its type of cast (Perfect, Rapid, or Heavy) as well as its stats. The trinket shoots a magic arrow at the first enemy in its path every random number of seconds, dealing a random amount of damage. The “perfect” type has a cooldown of 0.9 seconds, minimum damage of 30, and maximum damage of 35. The “rapid” type has a cooldown of 0.6-0.7 seconds, minimum damage of 8-12, and the maximum damage adds +5. The “heavy” type has a cooldown of 1.5-2.0 seconds, a minimum damage of 23-38, and maximum damage also adds +5. There is also a (none) type, with a cooldown of 1.1-2.1 seconds, minimum damage of 13-28, and maximum damage of +5. The (none) type is the most common to drop, with an 86.4% generation rate.

Parrot Egg

The Parrot Egg summons a parrot of a random level to grant you a chance to find gold coins while slaying monsters. Each gold coin is worth 250g, and the chance for enemies to drop coins depends on the parrot’s level (1-4). The level of the parrot can be re-rolled at the Anvil. The chance for gold coins to drop is not affected by luck, rings, or enemy type.

And there you have it! A basic guide to all the new trinkets in Stardew Valley.

Happy Gaming!!
